Another year of racing coming to an end. It has been a big year of Ute racing in Qld with 21 races been completed so far this season. Now it all comes down to the last round of the year to decide our 2024 championship.
In a weeks’ time we return to Lakeside Park in Brisbane for the last round of the OZGRIND Ute racing championship.
Its is a very tight affair on points with the production class with 3 drivers that can still win the championship mathematically. On adjusted points after round 4 Troy Montgomerie is leading the way chasing his first championship in his Ford BA after a solid result at Morgan Park last round.
In 2nd place only 7 points behind (on adjusted points) John Young is well in the hunt to get another championship under his belt in the Commodore. It has not been the perfect year we have seen in the past from John Young so a good result this round is what will be required to knock Troy off the first place spot on the podium.
In 3rd Spot is Craig Kasper that is 30 points behind Troy. With 125 points on offer it is still possible for Craig to leapfrog over both Troy and John and steal the year. The racing gods will need to be on Craigs side to achieve this however Lakeside can and will throw the competitors curve balls in the past so anything can happen on the weekend.
Saying that its going to a close end to the season, every race will count! I expect that it will come down to the last race of the year on Sunday to decide the final podium spots.
John Young 2nd
Craig Kasper 3rd
In the V8 Class it has been Brendan Exner and the ex V8 Ford Brutes year, Brendan has won 20 out of 21 starts and has been untouchable all year. Peter Clarke trails by 28 points however it is very long shot to make up the lost ground for the year. But having said that a Round win would be a good consolation prize if the VE commodore can get ahead of the Ford.
Brendan Exner
Peter Clarke
So, if you’re in the area next weekend come down to the Lake and see some great ute racing action.
