The Classic Lakeside Park was the venue for the last round of the year for the DC Voltage Ute Racing Qld Championship 14/15th October.

With 5 races over the 2 days both Production Ute class and the V8 Ute class championships were up for grabs for 2023.

Qualifying

Production Utes

John Young continued to dominate the production class with a very sharp time on a not so fast track to take the Valmont Coatings pole award with a 1.02.9 lap in the 3.6L V6 VZ Commodore.

V8 Utes

The young gun AJ Gealy took out the Valmont coatings pole award for the last time in 2023 in the ex Seiders Racing FG Falcon with a 61.4 sec lap. Unfortunately, Brendan Exner who raced exceptionally well all season suffered oil pressure issues with his FG Falcon decided that a engine failure was not the way he wanted to end the year retired the ute for the weekend.

Racing

The Production Class had some very class hard racing over the weekend. John Young looked good to take 5 wins from 5 starts until a battery issue resulted in DNS for one race. However, John did recover and took out 4 wins.

The battle for the remaining podium spots was a contest between Craig Kasper, Mick McCloud and Troy Montgomerie. With John Young dropping a race the points went to Mick McCloud for the round win, John Young had to settle for 2nd for the round and Craig Kasper took out 3rd place for the weekend.

V8 Utes

AJ Gealy finished the year off with the perfect weekend, pole position and 5 wins from 5 starts. A fitting end for what was a impressive rookie year for AJ. At 14 years of age, he has a huge future in motorsport and we are very happy to give AJ a platform to prove himself against some seasoned competitors such as Brendan Exner last years V8 Champion.

For the round Peter Clarke took out 2nd place in the VE Commodore and 3rd place went to Brendan Exner in his spare ute and for the record was missing a couple of cylinders.

There was plenty of close racing over the weekend and Troy Montgomerie put on a great display of some spirted driving over the weekend in the production class and was very unlucky to suffer a tyre issue in race 4 that hurt his weekend but some great battles with Troy, Craig and Mick in the production class.
