Round 2 of the Lion Batteries Ute Racing Qld championship was held on the 11/12th June at Lakeside Park on Brisbane Northside.
Qualifying had the Holden V Ford battle going strong with .1472 of a sec between the Holden of John Young and Ford of Danny Ford for pole position in the Production Utes. John Young taking pole with a 1.02.5.66 lap in the 3.6L V6 Holden VZ Commodore. The fight for 3rd position went to Rookie Craig Kasper being 0.681 secs faster than the Au Falcon of Peter Clarke. Matt Mundy was close behind to take 5th. Robert McMahon was the fastest V8.
Race 1
Race 1 on the Saturday afternoon was cut short and red flagged due to a incident involving the hot hatches and the wall on the final corner. The race was run again Sunday morning.
Sunday morning shaped up as a busy start to the day with the 1st of 5 races to be held on the day. A close battle for 1st between Danny Ford and John Young set the tone for rest of the day as these two utes had a cracker of a battle every race. John Young took the race 1 win over Danny Ford by .3 of a sec. Third in the production ute class went to Peter Clarke in the AU falcon after a tight battle with the commodore of Craig Kasper, Craig had a bit of a moment into Hungry corner that gave the last spot on the podium to the AU Falcon. Matt Mundy got the 4th spot. In the V8 class Robert Mcmahon was having his own private battle with the set up and the track and finished strong getting faster every lap.
Race 2
The Danny v John battle went on in race 2 this time Danny Ford being the victor with both production utes in the low 62 sec laps all race, keeping in mind these are production 6cyls , this was a cracking pace. 3rd went to the AU Falcon intech 4.0 ahead of Craig Kasper in the 3.8L VU Holden. Matt Mundy found some time and was catching the other single cam utes while fighting a steering issue. The V8 improved lap times and Robert Mcmahon finished 3rd Overall.
Race 3 results were the same as race 2. However John Young doing it the hard way to get to 2nd place after starting rear of field after a electrical issue in pit lane.
Race 4 With Danny and John the battle continued and something had to give, and it did with Danny going for a overtaking move into turn one , found a bit of grass and John Young had to make a move to ovoid car to car contact. This resulted with both utes in the kitty litter at turn one, Danny Ford in the BA managed to get out and retain the lead however John in the VZ lost a few places in the rejoin. John Young fought back to 2nd place behind Danny in the end which was a action packed race and the boys are pretty lucky to get away with.
Race 5 John Young hit back and got the win over Danny Ford in the production utes. Third went to Peter Clarke in the AU falcon ahead of Craig Kasper in the VU and Matt Mundy was right on the back of Craig and Peter to finish 5th. Robert McMahon got fastest lap of the race in the V8 .
