Round 5 of the Autobody Therapy Ute racing Qld championship has been run and won.
A huge day of racing with qualifying and 4 races at Lakeside Park on the northside of Brisbane. Scott Tamati had 3 new V8 competitors to contend with , new entries of Kane Hope in ex V8 Oaklands Brute, Simon Boss-Walker a ex V8 Brute and local FG V8 Ute competitor Allan Hughes all joined the grid on Sunday.
Scott Tamati had the perfect weekend with Pole and 4 wins from 4 starts and took out the V8 series Championship for 2021. The first competitor to take out the double by winning both a Production 6cyl series and V8 series championship.
Kane Hope and Allan Hughes had a hard but clean fight for 2nd and 3rd place behind Scott with Kane Hope coming out with 2nd for the weekend in the V8’s and close behind Allan Hughes taking out 3rd for the round. Simon Boss- Walker in his very first door to door race meet drove a clean round to take 4th place in the V8 Class.
In the Production 6cyl class John Young in the VZ Holden had another perfect weekend to finish the 2021 championship on top with pole and 4 wins from 4 starts.
Danny Ford took up the fight to John in his BA Falcon in some very close racing and took out 2nd place for the weekend. Brendan Exner in a BA Falcon took 3rd for the weekend and 2nd place in the 2021 championship.
The AU falcon of Peter Clarke took out 4th for the weekend and 3rd for the 2021 Championship.
New entry of Matt Mundy in the VY Holden drove 4 great races on his first ever ute round and took out 5th spot.
Rookie of the year 2021 went to Leyton Hatherley in the BA Falcon. Leyton impressed over the year with his spirted driving style and was quick from the start of the year.
Hard Charger 2021 award went to Troy Montgomerie in the BA Falcon. Troy drove hard and fast all year was very competitive early in the year. Troy was unlucky in a few races, racing can be a cruel sport at times, but Troy will come back next year with a point to prove and will be the one to watch.
Next year is looking to be the biggest grids that Ute Racing Qld has ever had its going to bigger and better. See you all out there !
